One member’s experience trying out an online learning resource – Jane Evans writes re ‘Introduction to Cryptic Crosswords’
Inspired by Bridget’s helpful list of u3a’s events I signed up for ‘Introduction to Cryptic Crosswords’. I immediately got an email confirming my ticket and telling me how I could proceed.
I got an email reminder 2 days and 2 hours before plus an email telling me what to expect and, for this, a document to print out.
Logging in on my laptop 10 minutes before it started, Zoom decided it needed an update which was a bit nerve racking but it only took a couple of minutes.
I know nothing about cryptic crosswords but by the end of the talk I was aware that there was a code that clues adhere to, and had a reasonable understanding of 2 of those codes governing clues.
There is a ‘free’ 6 week course and I might actually sign up! (Not totally free as a requirement is to buy the course book so an outlay of about £16 ish but we did get the first chapter at the end of today’s 2 hour session.
Zoom is intuitive. For me, not sure I could only use a smart phone but a tablet should be fine. If it was just a lecture and not interactive then maybe a mobile would be OK.
Why not pick something that interests you from the list and give it a go?
