News: An opportunity to exhibit your photographs

Published 7th August 2023

The Practical Photography group has been very fortunate in gaining a 6 week slot at the Hearth Gallery which is located in Llandough Hospital. It’s ideal for us as it free to use and free to view.

The exhibition will commence on 20th of September and last until 23 October. It will open daily at 9:00 am and close at 8:00 pm, and is free to visit irrespective of whether you are visiting the hospital for any other reason.

If anyone from the Cardiff U3A wishes to submit an Image to be exhibited then they are more than welcome to contact Andrew Rees for further details, at

 Andyrees1@btinternet.com

There will be a cost of £10 per entry. This is to pay for the printing, mounting and framing of the image but you do get to keep the framed picture at the close of the exhibition or indeed you may wish to offer it for sale!

Exhibition at Llandough Hospital

For some time now the two Cardiff Photography Groups have been working together to put on an exhibition of its members work.

After securing space at the HeARTh Gallery in Llandough Hospital the exhibition, which runs until the 22nd October was finally opened by Professor Danny Saunders OBE.

In his opening address Professor Saunders highlighted the shared values of the u3a and the hospital and praised the photographers for producing a such a diverse range of images that were not only pleasing to the eye but also of a high standard technically, and beautifully curated.

Speaking after the opening event Michael Barnes the lead organiser of the exhibition said it purpose was intended to demonstrate the part photography can play in providing older people with better opportunities for social contact, meaningful activity, whilst at he same time learning new skills and having fun.

We also wanted to demonstrate that learning together and enjoying each other’s company, and helping others do so, not only enriches our lives but also gives pleasure to others.

We very much hoped that the exhibits on show might will have provided some respite to those who are unwell, to their worried friends and families, and to staff throughout the hospital to whom we all owe a great deal. It’s clear from the feedback given by visitors to the exhibition, several of whom have bought exhibits, that this objective was met.

None of this would have been possible without the support of LLandough Hospital and, in particular, Magda Lackowska the Gallery Co-ordinator to whom we are especially grateful. We are also grateful to the Cardiff u3a committee for their support, to those members of both photography groups who jointly organised the event, and especially those who provided exhibits for display.

Why not pop along and see for yourself what an outstanding exhibition this is. Its is open daily from 10:00am to 8:00 pm daily and is free to enter.
