Non-Fiction Book Group

Contact the Convenor: Coralie Palmer

This is a new group starting in July 2024 and meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 2pm in the Meeting Room 1 at City URC.

The group is for readers drawn to all the varieties of non-fiction: history, biography, autobiography, essays and letters, travel, social analysis, popular science and more.

The book for our first meeting in July is historian Tom Holland’s renowned ‘Persian Fire: the First World Empire and the Battle for the West’, describing the respective histories of the tiny, nascent democracy of Athens and the mighty Persian empire – and how the battles they ultimately fought determined Western history.

Subsequent books will be chosen collectively by the group, so do please bring your nomination for the next book to the first meeting.
